Christmastime Is Here….

Hello! I know…I know…it’s not even Thanksgiving and I’m singing along to Charlie Brown’s Christmas CD and getting SO in the mood for Christmas right now. I guess it’s because I am an artist and in order for me to think of Christmas designs, I have to FEEL Christmas, and so I play Christmas music to get my creative juices flowing. Plus, it brings out the child in me and the ideas just flow. I can’t explain it!

Recently, I finished putting my designs on ceramic tiles for coasters, made some gingerbread salt dough ornaments and put some cards together for a shop that’s in the area here. I think they came out rather nice. Now I want to make some for me! Also, I am thinking of opening an Etsy store with my cards and prints and more soon, so there will be a place for those who like my designs to go and purchase whatever they like. I had an Etsy store once, several years back and started doing quite well, until I was advised to take my shop down in order for me to look more professional to the larger companies I wanted to send my artwork to. Bad idea. I could have had such a following right now, and doing what I love to do, but have not gotten anywhere with the larger companies at all. Now, I even see well known artist’s on Etsy and Fine Art America, so I guess I would be in good company right now!

But anyway, I will be on Etsy soon (already have my banner ready) and maybe even go back on Fine Art America. I think my store name will be CherylMcNultyArt, so please watch for me,and I will let you know when I am up and running! Now back to my Christmas music! 🙂

Friendly Scarecrow, Numbers 2 and 3

I have already posted Friendly Scarecrow No. 1 awhile back.  I am trying to do a series of 4 pictures because that is what the art licensing companies look for.  Now, I just have one more to go.  But for now, here is 2 and 3.  And yes, it has been kind of time-consuming, but worth it.  Hope you like these guys!

Charlotte and Friends Welcome Fall- A Drawing

I’m just posting an illustration of some characters I made up for  children’s book or greeting card series.  It is a primitive rag doll named Charlotte, with her two friends.  They are her trusting, Scottish terrier (another primitive icon) Toby; and Gunther,  the goose (primitive icon again). Gunther is the sidekick, comical one, who always seems to get into mischief. Toby just kind of sits quietly by and is usually on the receiving end of Gunther’s antics.  Like the straight guy. Charlotte is the  guiding, mother figure and keeps the two in line.

I must say, I have much fun drawing  these pictures and making them have all kinds of neat adventures together.  I just can’t seem to find the right way to market them, I guess.  I have an illustrated story I have done with them, but haven’t put it out there as yet.  I am thinking maybe cute greeting cards or along that line.  But for now, I’ll just see where it takes me. I do have another post about the book I wrote awhile back.

Anyway, for now, I am posting this picture to celebrate Fall, and I will post more to follow.  This will force me to continue to draw this trio and maybe come up with a  marketing idea as I go along.  It can’t hurt, right? Here it is:

Charlotte and Friends Welcome Fall

Thanksgiving Music Everyone Should Have

Well, I’m up at 4:00 this a.m. and looking around at music online (like everyone else, right?) because I happened to see a cd in a Victorian catalog I just knew I should look into. As an artist, I’m always on the lookout for music that is perfect for getting the creative juices flowing.  Not only because of the peacefulness it brings, but also for the nice memories the music stirs up of days gone by, a great combination for any cd.

I found two that really caught my eye and I listened to the samples and I believe they are simply “must haves” for everyone that host Thanksgiving  get-togethers.  These cd’s really bring out the spirit of Thanksgiving, and you’ll know what I mean when you listen to the samples.

The two I found…so far..are “We Gather Together” a cd by Craig Duncan.

"We Gather Together" By Craig Duncan

The dulcimer and mandolin are used here, with other beautiful instruments, a clear giveaway, that this will be a great cd!  I looked on Amazon for this one,but it said this cd would not be available until October 11 and I didn’t see any link where I could listen to samples, so I looked further.

I found this at and you could listen to samples as well.  I believe the price was about $9.99.  Please look it up. You will not be disappointed.

The other cd is called “Thanksgiving” A Windham Hill Collection. Music By George Winston.

"Thanksgiving" A Windham Hill Collection

This one you can listen to on Amazon and the price is also in the $10.00 range.  You will also see that there is a vast collection of Windham Hill favorites for every holiday, and  that’s great!  The reviews are all good reviews, and this leads me to think that  I just may start a collection soon!

I believe I found a sample on you tube.  Listen:

There it is. Look these two music cds up and you might just be in for a treat. Put your feet up, turn up the volume  and you’re in for the perfect escape from the world… for a while, anyway. 🙂  Enjoy!

Please See My New Items On Etsy!

I just posted, and will continue to post , new and exciting things on etsy.  I just posted some bookmarks and magnets and will be posting some new designs real soon.  Please check it out at

I am currently trying to keep up on trends and see where my designs will fit in this crazy market.  Any input would be great.  I constantly ask myself, “Do I draw backgrounds, or leave white space?”, “Do I do animals, or children?”, Do I put wording, or leave it blank?”  I never can decide which is best.

Anyway, I’m here and I’m going to keep doing what I do best, and that’s draw and create.  Here’s a preview:

refrigerator magnets (little pieces of art)

Bookmarks with quotes or sayings

Bookplates- more designs to come

I'm going to be doing more with silhouettes!

Christmas ideas are coming as well!

So, there you have it.  Like I said, any feedback or ideas that you would like to see, I would love to hear them.  Thanks so much and please visit Etsy.  Thanks so much!  Enjoy!

Snowy Days

picture of my daughters with friend sledding

Here is a photo that a friend of my daughters took when they went sledding last year.  On the end, and in front  are my daughters, and her sister is in the center.  I don’t know what it is about this picture, but I can’t stop looking at it.  I smile everytime I look at it because of my daughter’s face (Caitlin, on the end)!  It is perfect!  Her little red-button nose and her expression, plus the other’s expressions, make this feel somewhat like a Norman Rockwell painting.  I don’t know if this was planned, but it perfectly depicts the fun of a snowy day.

The image I'm using for a memo board

I now have used this photo for everything! As you see here, I have also taken the photo and enlarged it to put under a glass frame and use it as a wipe off memo board.  I put the  faded words “fun” in two colors, just so it would slightly fill the empty space and it doesn’t clash with the notes I write on the glass.  Another great idea from “Real Simple” magazine!

Ahhhh, so creative! 🙂

I just had to share this.  hope it makes you smile, too!  Enjoy!
