New Amish Painting and Finished Amish Garden 2

Well, I finally finished Amish Garden 2! Here it is!

Finished Amish Garden 2

I really enjoyed painting that garden. I added flowers myself …as you can never have enough flowers!

Also, I have many paintings sketched out in my art room/studio.This one I can’t wait to finish painting. It’s a little amish girl looking down at some little animal she’s holding. Is it a duckling? Is it a piglet or kitten? I don’t know myself yet, but I couldn’t wait to start her face, and that’s what helps me decide what color her dress will be, and everything else falls in to place as well. It’s like once the face is there, I can picture the rest of the picture, if that makes sense. So, I will show you more pictures of this as I go along, but I feel this is going to be a nice painting. Please come back to check it out soon! Until next time…

A New Amish Painting And My Art Studio

Hello! I just wanted to share with you a new painting in the works. It’s another amish garden painting…Amish Garden 2. This is also from a photo taken by me in Lancaster as we were driving on the back roads one day. We came across this plain stone, amish farmhouse, and since it was so pristine,  and the colors of the flowers were so striking, I had to take the photo. So, the other day,  I tried what I did with the last one I painted. I took out a pastel pencil and didn’t measure or anything. I just kept sketching it freehand and let it happen.

Of course, as always, I come to a point  where I think it’s not going to work and then suddenly, it all comes together.  I still have much to do on this, but I am figuring out as I go how to do that tree, or that patch of grass, or that small window! It’s fun! I can’t wait to see the end result! I will share it when it’s completed and then probably sell the original on Etsy. I had sold the last Amish Garden painting I did, and the person that bought it mentioned to me how happy she was with it… and that makes “ME” happy. This is the painting,  and here is the picture I took it from:

Getting there and I think I like it!

I also thought it would be nice to share some photos of my studio/room where I paint. I know I am always interested in what other artist’s studios look like,  and so I decided that this may be a great idea. Someday I may start doing some videos of my paintings, etc…someday. Anyway… here goes…this is my sanctuary…

This used to be my sons bedroom until he moved to Tennessee, so there is a bed in here too. This is one side of the room. My bookcase  there is full of supplies and many books on pastels and watercolors…and the Amish..of course!

My desk..ahem…of course I neatened it before I took the picture! Theres more pastels under those pastels you see there. I also like to have quiet music playing when I paint,  so I have a small cd player in here as well.

Here is the other side of the room. Yes, you can never have enough shelf space…more books and more supplies!

And there’s the bed..that comfy place when you need to take that break after all that hard work! I forgot to remove my glasses!

So there you have it. It is a comfy, room upstairs and kind of separated from the rest of the rooms in the house, so it is peaceful and nice. I think I will keep it! I hope you enjoyed seeing where this all happens! I will be back to show you the final Amish Garden painting and show you some other items I have sketched out recently to paint. I can’t wait to start them!

Also, since the Country Sampler came out last week with my painting “Katie and the Bunny” in the Simply Sampler section, it has been pretty busy! I am so happy I am able to reach out to more people, and that they are able to enjoy these paintings and know of what I do. Anyway…until next time. :))

The Amish Garden Original Painting, Now On Etsy

The Amish Garden in it’s mat frame. Already to go!

Hello all, I just wanted to let you know I have just put up my first original painting on Etsy…which is the Amish Garden. I must say, it was a difficult decision to make as I have never sold an original except for portraits that were commissioned, so this is rather strange.  But I realize I can’t keep every painting I do and just sell prints all the time.  I need to let go!  I realize I need to share more of what I do.

I know how special an original is, as it feel like the artist is right there. That artist touched that paper…the strokes are there and just knowing that the artist had this in their hands, and in their studio, for however long it took them to do this painting is really kind of special.  Also, I know a “picture” of a painting is not near as clear and as bright as the real thing. It’s just different.

Anyway, this is now up on Etsy for however long and I will be putting more of my originals more and more. Thanks for following me and your interest in my work! Cheryl

Amish Garden, A New Landscape Painting

Hello!  I just wanted to show you a new painting I decided to try.   I usually paint pastel portraits, but recently I have been watching random artists on You Tube painting pastel landscapes at amazing speed, by just throwing color on paper…not even blending! It’s like they just keep placing color over color and it ends up turning out amazing.  There is no real detail, but it’s more like a muted, colorful meadow…or  colorful, grouping of trees, etc. And the freedom!  The freedom of just looking at a small picture and painting what you see, not really caring about detail! I want that!

Well, I decided I would give it a try…somewhat.  I found a small picture from my last trip to Pennsylvania, sat down at my easel…and without even a ruler to measure the house in the picture…I just started going at it!  I just took a hard pastel and laid in all my shapes of where the trees were..the house…the birdhouse…and then started throwing color up on the paper. At one point, like with every painting…I was ready to give up. But I stuck with it. I also took the sunset sky from another picture just to give it more color.

Needless to say,  when I was done, my husband thought I was a genius!  He was like, “You are already done? That’s beautiful! I want to live there!”

I do love the colors, but I still need resist adding more and more detail!  I just have a hard time with that! I will try more paintings and see how they turn out. But, I will be putting this up on my Etsy store soon…I may even sell the original.

Anyway, hope you like the attempt!

Next!!!!
