Back From Vacation and Ready With More Amish Paintings

Hello! It’s been awhile but I’m back from vacation after a couple of weeks and have 3 new paintings to share (1 completed, 2 in the works) with you.

Again we visited Amish Country in Lancaster, Pa, and I couldn’t wait to get back home and try to finish all 3 of these paintings! I will soon!

I’ve finished a new Amish painting titled, “James, Amish Innocence” and I just loved the way this one came out. This one is already on my Etsy Shop!

“James” is an art piece which seems to be just a simple portrait of an Amish boy in his black hat and vest, but really, it is so much more than that. James innocence here shines through from his curious glance and quiet demeanor, to his long eyelashes and rosy cheeks. Such a simple but beautiful portrait. Great for anyone that loves to collect amish artworks or likes to visit Amish Country.

Then I have a little Amish girl holding a guinea pig, which I haven’t titled as of yet. I really like the glow from the sun around her. It was a challenge to try and pull that off as I have never done a painting with a “glow” effect before, but always wanted to. I also like the way she is looking down at the small animal here. I’m almost done with this one, when I am finished with the guinea pig the painting will be complete, then I will share this one as soon as I can.

The last painting is a nice one and I can’t wait to finish this one, also. This painting I actually took from a picture of my daughter sitting under a gazebo in the sunset in Pennsylvania, another “glow effect” painting. I just added a cap and amish dress and she looks like an amish girl taking a rest at the end of a hard working day. I need a title for this painting also. Well, it’s back to the drawing board for now! I will post these as soon as I can! Enjoy!

New Amish Painting “David and the Baby Goat”

Hello everyone, hope you are all well. Ive been on the mend as I had Covid a week or two ago and it was a little tougher than I thought it would be.

Anyway, I’m back and finally finished this painting, just before I got sick actually. It took this long to put it up! I really like the way this painting came out too. The colors are easy on the eye, with a simple, uncluttered background. The focus is right on David…and those beautiful blue eyes. He has a very determined, but gentle look on his face as he tends to the one of many animals on his farm. This is on my Etsy shop now.

Also, I wanted to show you that I am almost finished with Mary-Ellen Walton. I just have to finish her hat! I would love to paint a picture of the Walton House with a light on in the window like on the show. I will let you know if I ever attempt that. But I will try to paint more I promise. Stay safe and check back soon. Enjoy!

New Amish Paintings In The Works

Hello again! I’m so excited to share these 3 new amish paintings with you today. I haven’t painted amish children in awhile, and so when I had this spurt of inspiration, these 3 came to mind.

They are all sketched out with the faces partly done, which I love to do to get me motivated. I still have to think of backgrounds, and colors (so they work together), to make a beautiful painting in the end…hopefully. It’s all step by step…eyes…to go with dress color…to go with background color, etc. What will be in the background…not sure yet…just keep going…little bit at a time. It would be nice to paint a painting all in two hours or so and have it completed, but it doesn’t ever work out that way. But here within lies the challenge, to bring it to a satisfying completion. The journey is the fun part in the creating of an inspirational piece. To take the viewer away..in a sense. That’s always the ultimate goal.

I will come back and show you the pieces further along soon, maybe even completed…who knows. I will try to show you something here in a week.

Thank you for your interest and be back soon! Take care. Prayers for Ukraine! Cheryl

Paintings Coming Along!

Hello again. Just writing this quick post about the paintings I am working on, and they seem to be coming along…slowly. My gosh, it just seems like I am just dragging along and not accomplishing much these days. I can’t seem to get in more than 2 – 3 hours at a time each day, and its really bothering me. I want to finish one painting, that’s all I want. I will hopefully have this Amish painting done tomorrow, it’s actually further along than what I have here, but I want to surprise you when it’s completed.

Also, I just started putting color onto little, Elizabeth Walton from the Waltons . I just loved her so much in the Waltons show, but this painting is from the pilot movie that started it all, “The Homecoming”, which I have to watch every Christmas! This painting is when she is standing by the Christmas tree after Mary Ellen called her a Piss Ant. Her reaction is priceless! This is just for fun, because I already painted John Boy, and I have Mary Ellen to do as well!

But I am still working hard at this to keep adding to my paintings, and so I will share the completed ones as I do them and keep you posted. Each of these will be added to my Etsy Shop as soon as I get to it! Thanks for stopping by!

Another Amish Painting In The Works

I’ve been busy getting started on all the paintings I posted in my last post, and now Christmas has taken over my thoughts and time. I haven’t been able to sit at my desk for more than an hour at a time, if that! But I am determined to finish, and that’s why I put some color down on the paper just to get me excited ….to get started!

As I was trying to get those going, another idea for a painting jumped out at me, and so I sketched it. It’s another start. This one I really am excited about, and it’s an amish girl and her brother sitting in a barn (not sure yet) and the boy will be holding a puppy on his lap. It looks like the girl is standing by and watching over the pair, just to make sure they are okay. Not even sure what the title is of yet, but I am sure that will come during painting. I just had to share it, even though you can barely see it. It’s a very rough, light sketch. I hope you can see what I am seeing in this sketch. I cannot wait! Maybe after Christmas I should have more to show you all. Thanks for checking in. Happy Holidays!

Sorry So Long, New Pastel Paintings Coming Your Way!

Hello, and I know it’s been awhile….a long while. I recently had new vinyl floors put in the whole house. We had to pack everything away and live in the kitchen for a week or so. When it was done, we put everything back in every room, and then I just could not get the creative flow back. I had to clean up after all the dust, and touch up all the paint that was ruined by removing a wall to wall carpet. But anyway, it is done and I have pictures to show you of the floors. I am so happy with them. I actually like my house now!

Anyway, I just had to put up the next few pictures I am working on. I just forced myself to sketch at least a few to get the creative part of me excited and in the flow again.

Here are the ones on the drawing board now. I love the way the angel I am painting is coming out. It is from a vintage black and white, and I am bringing her to life with color and adding other details as well. Then I have had great interest on the painting of John-Boy Walton on my Etsy shop, I decided I would try Mary- Ellen and Elizabeth. I can’t wait to finish those. There is also the Amish Barn Landscape I am going to try with “lots of color”! I have also sketched out an amish boy, but haven’t decided what to do with him yet! It’s all quite and adventure! Now let’s see if I can squeeze out these paintings between Thanksgiving and Christmas! I will keep you posted on updates, I promise. Until then….:))

Amish Painting “Noah’s Puppy” Completed

Hello! So sorry this took me awhile, but the coronavirus has really made it hard to keep me focused on my painting as we are all working at home here, and I had to change rooms for awhile. Half of my art supplies etc are now in disarray in my bedroom and it’s hard getting set up and getting used to painting in a darker room…grrrrr. Anyway, we are all making the best of it.

But alas, I managed to finish this painting and I really hope you like it. I really enjoyed painting this one and seeing it finally all come together. I love this little puppy!

Also, I couldn’t put this painting up until I had a title for it, and I went sifting for names, and Noah seemed perfect.  Now it is done. I am also putting up the beginnings of a painting that is different for me to try. It is a portrait of the Easter Bunny. Just wanted to see what would happen with this.  I am further along on this one than you see here, and I will put this one up soon. In the meantime, I will be putting Noah up on my Etsy Shop in the next day or so.

So, again I’m sorry this took longer than I thought. Hope you like this one. Until next time, please take care and stay safe!  Cheryl

Amish Boy Coming Along

Hello! I hope you are all doing well considering this awful, current coronavirus news. It’s so hard to even concentrate on daily things we do,  never mind trying to be creative  in all this negativity.  One really has to separate from that for awhile, go to a quiet room and put on some good music, just to calm the nerves! This is why I paint.

Anyway…this is also why I have only gotten this far on this painting.  But I am going to complete this by the end of this week, I swear! I really do like how it’s looking so far and I hope you like it, too.

I will be back soon. Take care and be safe!

Billie Eilish Portrait, Amish Boy Started and Country Sampler Magazine

Hello again!  Just wanted to share a new portrait I had wanted to try for awhile now.  My daughters had gotten me to listen to this music artist who seems to be very popular now, Billie Eilish. She is very talented and I love many of her songs.  She seems very down to earth when she is interviewed… so very interesting to listen to. Billie also has many different looks and hairstyles, but I really took to this photo I found of her that made her look very striking, and so I decided I would try it. Hope you like it.

Also I have started another portrait of a little amish boy, since I haven’t done many boys lately. I still haven’t decided what animal he’s holding, maybe a puppy,  baby goat…we will see. But this is the beginning stages….

And lastly, I just wanted to mention I will be advertising “Eva and the Piglet” in the April/May issue of Country Sampler Magazine which should be on stands April 1st. Well that’s it for now. Back to the drawing board!

Aaron’s Peeking, Another Amish Painting

Hello! First, let me say I am sorry this has taken so long. There have been several family issues  (health wise) which happened to come up all at once.  It’s crazy how things can be going along fine one minute, and at a moments notice, everything can change…just like that!  At least I have faith to get me through … and my painting to get my mind off things and give me some form of brief escape.

But  back to my painting. I’m calling this one “Aaron’s Peeking”, and even though I wish I could see more of Aaron’s face,  I feel thats what gives this painting the interest it needs. I still may want to add to his straw hat, to give it a little more texture and punch, so I will work on that a little more.

I do love the fact that Aaron is peeking over an Amish quilt (of course), and I love the colorful pattern on this one.  Then there is the little part of nature added in…which is Mr. Bluebird. He wants to play too! I decided to leave a blank, blue sky so I could have the option to add an inspirational quote, like I like to do.  In any event, I like the way it turned out and I hope you do too.

I still have my collage painting which was posted a couple of  blog Continue reading
