“Mary’s Little Lamb” A New Amish Painting Completed

This is a new completed pastel painting titled, “Mary’s Little Lamb”. Mary has just finished her chores and is enjoying a peaceful moment with the new addition to the family, this little lamb. The serene look on Mary’s face says it all. Just a beautiful piece. Another lovely print to add to your Amish collection.

I am really happy the way this painting turned out. Mary looks quite content holding that cute,little lamb. As I look at this painting, I somehow feel like I am with her enjoying and sharing this quiet moment. I hope you feel like this too. It’s always a good feeling when I have completed a painting such as this one, and it makes me want to go straight back to my drawing board….so I will.

New Amish Paintings And Elizabeth Walton Completed

Hello! I finally did it. Three paintings completed, finally! I am so happy I accomplished this and really happy with all of these.

The two new Amish paintings were a lot of fun, especially trying the landscape painting, which I haven’t painted too many of. But what I thought was going to be “impressionistic” and simple, of course for me…turned out to be more of a perfectionistic approach. I can never seem to just throw the color on the paper and go with the flow, which I really want to try! But anyway, I’m very happy with the colors and the feel of the painting, since my photo (which I took on one of my trips down to Lancaster) was very dull colored. This came out really warm.

“The New Puppy” was also a lot of fun, but always a challenge trying to keep the focus on the amish boy and girl with the puppy, and not the background. I had to stop myself! I added the flowers in the girls hands to look like she had just picked them from the field, then decided to stop over to see her brother and his new companion. I just like the serene feeling to this painting.

And then there’s little Elizabeth Walton! This was really for fun and because I love the Walton’s Show so much. She is so cute! I wanted it to look like the scene from “The Homecoming” when she is standing beside the Christmas tree as Mary Ellen is calling her names. I tried my best to look like she had raised eyebrows as she defends herself.

New Amish Paintings “Anna Mary” and “Nature’s Grace”, Gilbert Blythe and more…

I just completed a new amish painting which I titled, “Anna Mary”. I believe that this painting is beautiful in it’s simplicity. I wanted the real focus to be on the little, amish girl’s face, and I think that’s what draws you in to this painting.

This painting came about from a memory we had on a past trip to Lancaster, Pa. My husband and I were driving down a back road in Amish country when this little, amish girl came running out to the road. Then peeking behind a pole, she waved to as we drove by. I just decided to paint her peeking from a barn door for more interest. I hope you like her.

The other Amish painting “Nature’s Grace” is of an amish girl resting on a rock on a creek, dipping her toes in the water enjoying the beauty of nature all around her. I just love the peaceful look on her face and the subtle glow from the subdued sunlight. I hope you like them.

Also, I completed “Gilbert Blythe/Jonathan Crombie” from Anne of Green Gables. I had already done a portrait of Anne, but people kept asking me if I would ever do Gilbert (if you are familiar with the movie, which is awesome). And so I painted Gilbert. Now Anne will never have to be alone!

Also… here is another old seaman portrait painting. I just love painting these rough, old faces with wrinkles and ruddy complexions, faces that tell a story of life on the sea. I love that!

And finally, a portrait profile of my daughter’s new dog. His name is Oliver and he is a German Shepard/Great Dane mix, which gave him this beautiful spotted coat of gray and white and hints of brown. He has a strange dark spot under his iris under one eye and so I painted that side. A beautiful dog indeed, and I painted him on velour, which gave a very soft effect.

Amish Girl Hugging a Cow continued…

Well,  I have been hard at work finishing this painting and it has been through many changes so far.  Guaranteed there will be more.

In the first painting you see I added the background in the barn and colored the cow in..which took forever. I really liked the way he came out, too!  Then  I added a window in the back so that you get the feeling of depth, a feeling that it’s more than blank, dark space.  Just adding a little interest. Then I added some paint for the bottom of the barn door, just a basecoat.The window has some color here, also (sorry it looks a little tilted here, as I took this at a weird angle). I had finished the barn door after this and it was plain grey with white.  It just looked too dull, and so I thought maybe I could add color like red paint, but make it look like its faded and worn.  Then, here I did something drastic. I decided I did not like the red color on this cow.  I wanted more of a brown jersey cow, a softer color. I ERASED the whole cow…except the nose and eyes, and made him brown. I haven’t completely finished him, but I like the color better. It will look better with the dress color I add to the girl as well.I have even gone farther than what you see here. I have added more to the background to add further interest and I have erased the bottom of the girls face and she is being fixed…I will show you asap…so please come back. I can’t wait to share more!

Another Amish Pastel Painting, Rebekah In The Barn

Wow!  I can’t believe I have finally finished this painting.  This took me some time as I was at first busy with painting some rooms in my house, and then a graduation came and went, and the painting just sat against my desk half done.  I hate doing that, too.  Starting a painting and then not finishing it, only because it breaks up the creative flow you had when you first started.  It’s more difficult to get back into it again,and I think every time I saw the painting there waiting…I was almost afraid to start in on it again. So one day I just said to myself I wasn’t going to start another project until I finished this, and I kept at it until I felt I was finished.  It’s funny, you never really feel like it’s perfect, you just know there is nothing more you could add or take away that will make any more of a difference. At least for me…I always think it could have turned out better doing this or that. But I guess that’s all about the learning process…and then you start another one and say this will be better than the last. I do like the way this one turned out though.  I just love her face and peaceful expression, and that’s the thing that I always try to attain. I hope you like Rebekah In The Barn. It sure took some time for her to arrive! And now…onto the next one…whew…:) If you are interested, this will also be available on Etsy soon.
